Glass and Glazing

Glass/ Glazing Replacement

We will replace your glass with conservation grade glass or acrylic if you want,

or we will install and replace it with the same type you had in the frame.

You now replace it with glazing that blocks UV rays

and also does not reflect images from your room

Which glazing do I use?

"Never Window Glass"

Most ready made frames (sold with glass) use window glass or styrene glazing

Most on-line internet and craft (big box) stores use this type of glazing

Don't be mislead by their statements

BECAUSE NOT ALL GLAZING IS CREATED EQUAL.

their protection is not "conservation" its only physical protection.

Basic ground rules.

But lets get down to the different levels of glass (glazing).

Let me first state not all glazing is glass

(It can also be acrylic)

Let's talk about glass first.

Glass is the most commonly used glazing material for picture framing.

The benefit of glass it is more resistant to scratching and is easer to clean.

The disadvantage of glass is it is much heavier than acrylic and can be a hazard if broken,

not only damaging the artwork, but could also cause personal physical harm.

If you are displaying the artwork in a high traffic area or where children play it is best to error on the side of safety (acrylic).

(Acrylic -- One of the only dis-advantages is additional cost and requires extra

attention when cleaning Acrylics can be used the same way glass can be used

(except over some original artworks that react to static will  attach to acrylic).

Some of the benefits in using acrylic is it less expensive to ship. )

Acrylic comes in standard (clear or non-glare), conservation and Museum

The last step is to choose what kind of glass or glazing.

Glazing is the cover that protects everything in a frame.

As with matting, glazing is optional and not required.

Of course, without glazing the artwork will be readily

exposed to any temperature and humidity changes.

Glazing normally is either glass or acrylic.

Want to know more about glazing?

We offer picture framing grades in both glass and acrylic

Standard framing you may use premium quality clear glass or acrylic

Conservation framing requires glass or acrylic with UV ray reduction coating to protect the

artwork from UV light damage by prohibiting UV rays from penetrating the glass

Anti-glare glazing which will reduce glare from light bulbs or natural light.

They comes in either glass or acrylic, conservation

Museum glass provides the best of both worlds

by giving you anti-glare and conservation protection.

The primary purpose of glazing in art framing is to physically protect

the work of art from damaging factors such as humidity, heat,

and acrylic may be used to protect against physical damage

from glass breakage and to offer protection from a malicious attack.
